Meet the Staff

Matt and Chantal McGee

Matt and Chantal McGee moved to Cimarron, Colorado in 2004 to start Sonrise Mountain Ranch. Before following a call into vocational ministry, Matt and Chantal both served as U.S. Air Force pilots for several years. After their time in the Air Force, Matt attended Denver Seminary completing a Masters of Divinity program and Chantal began homeschooling their children. The McGees now have seven children: Maddison, Abby Grace, Rebekah, Eden, Zeke, Vivian Joy and Colson.

Roger and Val Drown

Roger and Val joined the SMR staff in March of 2012. Val served as Director of Children’s Ministry at Grace Community Church, and office manager of R.D. Construction before joining SMR as the Operations Assistant. Roger runs a small construction company in nearby Montrose. Roger and Val have six adult children and nine grandchildren. In their spare time they enjoy exploring the Cimarron valley on horseback.

Adam and Kim Turner

Sonrise is blessed to have Adam and Kim as part of the Sonrise family for several years.  Along with their kids, they have been able to serve in various ways around the Ranch.  In 2013, Kim took on the role as lead cook and Adam, in between his day job in Montrose, washes a few dishes and helps with the facilities crew when he can.  They have two adult children who are both married and live close by.  Together they love to serve and pray for the families who come to Sonrise.

Nathan and Staci Schulz

Nathan and Staci Schulz, along with their children Paige, Levi and Ayden moved from Olathe, Co to Cimarron to serve on the Sonrise Mountain Ranch summer staff in 2018, but in fall of 2019 transitioned to full time staff members. Nathan is serving as Facilities Director and Staci is serving as Assistant Cook in the kitchen. Their children, Paige, Levi and Ayden are learning to trust and serve God in many ways. They are helping in the Children’s ministry and anywhere else they can; their favorite area to serve is crawdad fishing lessons!

2021 Summer Staff

David and Amber Margosian

David and Amber were both born and raised overseas (David in Germany and Amber in Belize).  Their families moved to Colorado in 1998 and 1996 (respectively) but they didn’t meet until a mutual friend’s wedding.  They married in 2013 and have two boys – Timothy and Joshua.  David completed his degree in Biblical Studies from Liberty University Online in Spring of 2020.  He is looking forward to being outdoors and serving the Lord in a new capacity.  This will be Amber’s 3rd opportunity serving at Sonrise and she already knows it’s going to be an amazing Summer.  Their boys are excited about crawdad hunting, hiking, living “right next” to a playground, and living in a cabin for the whole summer!

Madilyn Rook

Hey y’all! My name is Madilyn Rook, and I am from Houston, TX. I fell in love with Sonrise when I went for the first time with my family last summer! I will be a freshman at Clemson University in the fall, studying nursing. I love Jesus, spending time with people, reading, all sorts of arts and crafts, and being outdoors. God is doing big things, and I cannot wait to be a part of His plan for Sonrise!

Abriel O’Reilly

Abriel grew up in a small rural town in Eastern Oregon. The seventh of ten children she is used to healthy competition, boisterous family gatherings and lively conversations. Some of her hobbies include running, hiking, biking or pretty much anything that involves exploring the outdoors. (If you want to hear a good story, ask her about the family excursion hiking in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.) She has also recently taken up photography and has discovered that the only thing better than exploring the wilderness is documenting it through film. She is currently attending Boise State University majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in biomechanics. Her goal is to work in fitting and rehabbing individuals with injuries requiring prosthetics.

Ryan Vaughn

Hey y’all! My name is Ryan Vaughn and I am from Cumming, Georgia. I have one brother and a twin sister. Some hobbies of mine are hanging with friends, hiking, playing basketball, and just being outdoors. I love traveling and visiting big cities. I will be a sophomore at Georgia Southern University next fall majoring in multimedia journalism with hopes one day to write and be an analyst for ESPN.

Drew Morris

Hey y’all! My name is Drew Morris and I am from Cumming Georgia. I have an older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. I will be a junior at Georgia Southern University and I am studying psychology. I hope to use this degree someday to become a clinical psychologist or possibly work in ministry.  I love playing sports, hiking, swimming or really anything outdoors. I also like reading and playing board games as well. I am super pumped for an amazing summer!

Sarah Phillips

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Phillips. I am from Mobile, Alabama, and I am currently attending school at the University of Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I am majoring in social work with the intentions of attaining my Master’s degree. I enjoy many sports, but my favorite are volleyball and soccer! I also love anything that involves a little competition! My goal in life is to help as many people as I can! God has done huge things in my life, and I cannot wait to share my story with the families at Sonrise!

Elizabeth Browning

Hey y’all, I’m Elizabeth (or Liz). I’m 23 years old and from Montrose, Colorado. Since graduating high school I have been spending my time overseas doing a discipleship school, an outreach to Papua New Guinea, and 9 months in Australia for a school of biblical studies. I like hiking, soccer, and spending time with friends and family at lake Powell.

Liliana Hatch

Hey everyone! I’m Liliana Hatch and I am from Chattanooga, TN. I am attending Samford University majoring in exercise science and minoring in music, and eventually pursuing a career in physical therapy.
